In 1960, when John F. Kennedy was running for president, his motorcade made a spontaneous stop at Roger’s stand on its way to New Haven.
Kennedy bought a basket of apples for five dollars (the actual price was two dollars). A crowd was assembled at the intersection of Lucy and Litchfield in anticipation of seeing the motorcade pass by. No one expected it to stop.
